Use Snip.ly to get more clicks to your articles, website, download, service, etc!

I love to share articles about the auto industry, marketing, tech and sales that I find online. I use Flipboard and Zite on my iPad to learn and be entertained. I read content shared by my friends and connections on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, and get emailed Google Alerts on the keywords that interest me.
Every article or webpage I find of value, I save into an app called
Pocket.
Pocket is awesome - it works on every device: Android, Mac, iOS, and Windows. I even created tags to break down the categories of articles I save. This makes it easier to decide with which network(s) and social account(s) to share that content.
At least once a week, I open
Pocket and pick a few articles, open them in browsers,
READ THEM to make sure they’re
share-worthy, and schedule them to be posted to Social Media accounts across multiple networks using a combination of
Hootsuite and
Buffer (which are both phenomenal content sharing tools).
I was getting credibility from my connections by sharing cool content, and that was nice, but what was the end result? It shows people I’m reading the latest content to expand my knowledge base, but still, tough to truly measure the effect.
Earlier this week I was reading an article,
“How to Generate Leads With Your Content” on Unbounce’s blog. One of the suggestions the author gave was to use an appending tool called
Snip.ly, which lets you add a custom CTA with a link to anywhere on the articles you share - AND it pushes right to
Hootsuite and
Buffer.

Right away, the wheels started turning. I’ve been sharing all of this great content, but never gave my connections a method to read another piece of content I want to share from that content, or I missed a potential opportunity to provide my connections a link to my website.
So I signed up for a free
Snip.ly account, which gets you 1 Profile with 1000 “clicks” a month - which are really views on the article you shared, or impressions of your “snip.” There are paid versions available which give more sharing options, custom colors, multiple accounts and more.
I installed the Chrome Extension, opened
Pocket, and found an article to share, which I opened in Chrome using the “Open in Browser” link inside
Pocket. I then created a
Snip.ly CTA using the Chrome Extension and scheduled the post to a few accounts right to
Hootsuite and
Buffer. It took a few minutes to figure out what the message and button text would be in the Snip, but that’s the only extra step I had to take.

I recognized the potential power of this tool almost immediately. It can help give your content visibility to people who were already interested enough in something you shared to click once! Use other people’s awesome content to get clicks to your articles, website, download, service, etc! Now, sharing these articles makes even more sense and has an end result that may actually benefit me beyond sharing credibility.

I’ve started small - in just 2 days, I can see that the 7 articles I’ve shared with
Snip.ly already got 32 views. Only 1 person has clicked through to the page I referenced in the Snip, but I am still experimenting with that messaging. Their dashboard is simple to understand and visually easy to navigate.
